Teledyne Brown Engineering under contract with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) designed, developed, tested and integrated 10 Sample Ampoule Assemblies (SAAs). The SAAs contain scientific samples that will be processed on the International Space Station in the Solidification Using a Baffle in Sealed Ampoules (SUBSA) Furnace which operates in the Microgravity Science Glovebox. The goal of these experiments is to produce materials that will be used to advance sensor technology in the future. The company will control these experiments at their onsite Tele-Science Center in Huntsville, AL.
“The team at Teledyne Brown Engineering is made up of trusted experts who provide extremely valuable commercial services to our ISS National Laboratory users”, said Ken Shields, CASIS Director of Operations. “This SUBSA project represents a terrific example of TBE’s ability to provide an excellent level of service that is on time and on budget. We look forward to future collaborations.”
The SAAs were launched April 18th on Cygnus flight CRS OA-7. This is the seventh commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station and is carrying 7,600 pounds of supplies and research for crew aboard the orbiting laboratory.
“Our company continues to support the International Space Station on multiple contracts on various levels,” stated Jan Hess, Teledyne Brown Engineering President. “With each mission we are able to learn and achieve more to help further NASA’s advancements in commercial space.”
