Reggie Spivey serves as Vice President of Space Systems. In this role, he leads a group of over 300 technicians, scientists, and engineers developing, testing, integrating, and operating hardware and software for NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS), and International Space Station (ISS). He is responsible for developing space-qualified hardware and systems such as the SLS Launch Vehicle Stage Adapter, ISS payload operations for all mission phases (e.g., planning, testing, simulations, training, pre-launch, ascent, checkout, orbit determination, mission operations, de-orbit and descent, landing and post-landing), as well as payload integration and planning services on the Engineering Solutions & Prototyping (ESP) contract at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and the Research Engineering Mission Integration Services (REMIS) contract at Johnson Space Center (JSC).
Since beginning his career at Teledyne Brown over 30 years ago, Spivey has made valuable contributions to the Space industry with both the company and Tec-Masters, Inc., a small business startup. While working for TBE, Spivey has held positions with increasing responsibility from Thermal Analyst, to Program Manager for Teledyne’s Altair Lunar Lander Team with Lockheed Martin, to Manager of the ISS Commercial Payload Integration, to Director of Engineered Products and Solutions for TBE’s Space Systems Division and Operations Manager of Space Systems, to Operations Manager of Space Systems.
While working at Tec-Masters, Inc., Spivey worked as a Payload Developer, Project Engineer and designer on Spacelab experiments, Project Manager for the Pore Formation and Mobility Investigation (PFMI) and the Solidification Using a Baffle in Sealed Ampoules (SUBSA) investigations, and finally as the Project Manager for the MSG facility on the International Space Station. During this time, Spivey was part of the TBE/TMI proposal team that won the Systems Development and Operations Contract (SDOS) – a $568 million dollar contract that TBE primed for nearly 12 years.
Reggie’s many awards include, AIAA Aerospace Engineer of the Year (Alabama-Mississippi Section) (2003), NASA Silver Snoopy Award (2005), NASA Space Flight Awareness Team Award (2011), and NASA Silver Achievement Metal (2013).
Reggie graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME) in December 1987. He earned a Masters of Mechanical Engineering (MME) degree from Auburn University in 1994. He is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the National Space Club, the American Astronomical Society (AAS), and the Boy Scouts of America. He is also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Pi Tau Sigma honor societies and various charitable organizations. He is a licensed private pilot with flight time in both rotor-wing and fixed-wing aircraft. Reggie is a member of the Auburn Alumni Association and serves on the Auburn University Mechanical Engineering External Advisory Board.
