Electromagnetic Effects
Essentially all military hardware contains electronic circuitry, all being susceptible to Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3). For many years, Teledyne Brown Engineering has provided high-level analytical assistance in E3 to a broad range of customers.
We are experienced in all aspects of E3, including:
- Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
- Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)
- High-Power Microwave (HPM)
- Electromagnetic Radiation Hazards (EMRH)
- Electromagnetic Radiation Operations (EMRO).
In addition, we have expertise in TEMPEST, electronic warfare, lightning effects, ultrawideband radiation, and special modulations.
Teledyne Brown is the custodian of an excellent library of EMI / EMC, HPM, and EMP coupling and analysis codes, including:
- Microwave Susceptibility (MSAM)
- Directed Microwave Energy Weapon Simulation (DMEWS)
- System Generated EMP Estimates (SGEMP).
We use pSpice for circuit analysis, NEC2 for radio frequency coupling, and GEMACS for General Model for Analysis of Complex Systems. We also maintain a comprehensive set of propagation analysis codes.
